Does the job June 29, 2010 Big-D (Lake Havasu City, AZ United States) I wanted to mount my marine VHF radio in my personal vehicle to enable me to communicate with either my boat or one of my many friends boats prior to reaching the lake. I needed an antenna, but did not want a huge fiberglass whip. Instead, I wanted an antenna that appeared more like a standard CB antenna. This antenna, although shorter than a CB antenna, fills the bill. I get excellent transmit power and reception due to my vehicle becoming a ground plain. Very happy with this stainless steel antenna.
Great on time thanks September 28, 2009 FRANZ HOLZHEU (MIAMI, FLORIDA United States) Works nice long range I like it alot and thanksTRAM 1600-HC 38- Inch VHF Marine Antenna
No ground plane needed February 21, 2009 Ward Starring (Bremerton, Washington United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this antenna for a base station but was concerned that I would need a ground plane as in most other transmitter antennas. I installed this atop my television antenna pole(yup, still use it) and had to run 54-feet of RG-58A/U coax to the radio. After installation I tested the antenna with a VHF VSWR meter and found a 1.5:1 ratio, which is awesome considering the length of coax and where the antenna is mounted. I didn't have to adjust anything on the antenna, just put the whip in with the provided allen wrench and mounted the pole... pretty simple and no hassle.
For the money, I don't think you can go wrong with this little guy and the 6dB gain equates to 100Watts effective transmitter power from a 25Watt radio.
Excelant October 3, 2008 M. Miyaji (Honolulu, HI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Easy tosetup, cables are easy to find in Hawaii, mounted iton the boat, sprayed it with some anti-corosion spray and it worked just fine.
Great antenna August 11, 2008 Jimmy E. Burnside (Orange Park, FL USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This antenna is great. It's not obtrusive, or unsightly. Easy to install and remove and gets great range.
