5 out of 5 stars problemsolved   July 12, 2010

Having reviewed many helpful comments on this antenna, went with it, and am glad. We escaped the relentless rise of satellite service fees, by switching to FTA Glorystartv satellite, which only requires one time equipment purchase. Spouse, however, desires the local tv stations, thus the directional antenna was first option, for the locals. In Twin Cities area, we soon discovered that, in our case, all stations came in fine, from same general direction. BUT the one with the movies, (of course), would not maintain the (weaker at our location) signal, and often froze and broke up. Turns out, it is the only channel which is oriented in a significantly different direction, though half the distance of the others. A two antenna config. would not solve it, so we went with Winegard, based on great reviews. Stargate Satellite people are fantastic, and worked with us, to get through the bumpy transition from costly monthly tv, to Free To Air television. Winegard's omnidirectional antenna, solved our challenge, and we highly endorse their product. Amazon as well, has become my source for virtually everything. Recall reading years ago, that shopping from livingroom would be the "next big thing". Now it is our habit. Shipping is always troublefree, and usually quicker than promised. Thanks to Amazon, Winegard and very helpful reviewers. "happy-camper" in Minneapolis area

A great way to tell comcast you don't like the high cost of cable tv! Does best without alot of trees in the path of the signal.

If you are looking for free high def tv look no further. This item is one the cable and sat companies don't want you to know about. I mounted this on my roof (2 story town home) utilizing the remaining direct tv sat dish from an old system. I removed the sat dish and mounted this on the existing J Pole. If you don't have one, definitely buy a pole, for you will need it to mount.

On to the performance; I am 12 miles from my towers, all UHF bands same heading, VHF had a different compass heading, the main reason I went with this multi directional unit. In Richmond, VA I am pulling down 13 digital and 2 analog channels. Most importantly I get High Def NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, and multiple PBS stations. Throw in Hulu on my high spped internet and I don't miss my $188 Fios bill every month. I only watch the prime stations and decided it was time to stop tossing money away.

If you are worried about quality of the picture, Don't, if you are in range, you will be getting high def in 1080i resolution, no different than Fios or Comcast. I have a 25ft run to the amp, and another 40 foot run to my upstairs bedroom off the splitter. Some drop out occurs in this room but will be fixed quickly once I add another amp for the longer run. If you do the mount right it works, if you have drop outs add another amp, you will be very pleased with this unit.

5 out of 5 stars excellent reception   April 16, 2010

i tried it inside the house, close to the window. very simple installation ... works great, got all the local channels (HD too) free now. very clear and stable signal. and it looks much better than the traditional fork-spike antenna. as long as you can live without ESPN, FOOD network, CNN, CNBC those type of premium channels (well most of them are legally on the web now) ... i cant be happier to save $70/mth on cable now

1 out of 5 stars Not worth the money   April 12, 2010

I used this in middle of my downtown area at a condo. I bought a $30 amplified RCA antenna at Wal-Mart, but couldn't pick up ABC and a couple of local stations. All the major networks and 6-8 independents are within just a few miles. Long story short, I went for the sales pitch on this antenna that it was ideal for metro/urban area. It turned out to be inferior to the cheap one I bought at Wal-Mart. To make matters worse, I threw away the box and couldn't return it. Save your money. This thing is all hipe.
