5 out of 5 stars FreeVision   June 24, 2010

I purchased this antenna for our RV. It works wonderfully.

I was recently at a horse show in the Northern part of our state. I parked the RV and proceeded to set up the tv and antenna. I used a compass to point the antenna in the correct direction. I did the setup on the tv and I received 26 channels! Even using a 25 foot length of cable!

A little hint that works for me. I attached the antenna to an exta speaker stand so I could move it around easily and it keeps the antenna stable so it doesn't slip out of position. I positioned the antenna in the front of the RV and just moved the tv from the living area to the bedroom when I was ready to retire for the night.

5 out of 5 stars ABC and NBC on high-VHF band, FV-HD30 saves the day!   June 11, 2010

I'm about 38 miles away from Sutro Tower in San Francisco, and I had
been using a small indoor UHF antenna which worked quite well:

Philips PHDTV1 Silver Sensor UHF/HDTV Digital Indoor TV Antenna

But it couldn't bring in ABC or NBC, which are both on the high-VHF band.
I tried some indoor VHF rabbit ears, but still no go.

So I bought this FV-HD30 and mounted it outside on my patio, attached
to a 5-foot Radio Shack antenna mast. I have a clear line-of-sight to Sutro.

I also got the Winegard AP-8700 pre-amp, because of a 40-foot cable
run, which is then split and routed to 3 TV Tuners:

Winegard AP-8700 Preamplifier High Gain Low Noise 19 dB UHF 17 dB VHF for HDTV Antennas

The TV tuners are HDHomeRun's, which work great with Windows 7:

SiliconDust HDHomeRun HDHR-US Dual Networked High Definition Digital Television (White)

Well the antenna + preamp solved the problem, ABC and NBC now come in
strongly, and all the UHF channels are fine too. Highly recommended!

When you are assembling the HD-FV30 antenna, a deep (1.5" to 2") 7/16" socket is helpful.

I made my own cabling, using Belden 7915A Tri-Shield RG6 cable, and Thomas&Betts
Snap-N-Seal compression connectors.

5 out of 5 stars Great Reception   June 4, 2010

I bought this antenna because of the good reviews, inexpensive and all the channels it picked up. I was not disappointed. I set it up temporarily inside my home, just sitting on a chair pointing in the general direction of where all the TV station towers are in Portland, about 15 to 20 miles away. To my surprise it picked up all but one station, and that station was 50 miles away in Salem. Once I had the time to properly mount it outside (on an old satellite J mast) on the side of my home and pointed it visually to the west hills of Portland where all the TV towers are, I received all the Portland stations and the Salem station. Reception is excellent, build quality seems good, easy to assemble, small and inexpensive. I could have spent two to three times as much on an antenna and it would have been a waste of money, I'm so glad I came across this unit on a Google search. And I received it a day earlier than Amazon said I would get it on top of everything.

5 out of 5 stars It works right out of the box!   June 3, 2010

This thing really works. I was amazed actually at how many channels it picked up and how easy it was. It comes flat in the box and you assemble the 2 pieces together along with a few screws. Took like 2 minutes. Then you connect the coaxial cable to the back of your tv, and depending on your tv, scan for channels, sit and wait a few minutes and VOILA!!!, you got HD local channels!

I bought this for my parents who live in New Jersey, and they picked up most of the local channels with no problems. They didn't even have to mount it to the wall or place it outside. It just lays flat underneath the TV on the tv stand. The only channel they didn't get was ABC, but I am sure with a little adjustment, they will be able to. All other channels that we expected came in fine.

I highly recommend this product. If you have somewhere to mount this to outside or in the attic, you should. It works great but it's not pretty to look at. You don't want this hanging on your wall in your living room.

5 out of 5 stars Works great!   May 19, 2010

I live about 25 miles from the Minneapolis station towers and could only get one station. I mounted this on the wall behind the TV and I now get 29 stations - all crystal clear. Basic cable is $25 a month and this was a one time $35 charge. Definitely worth it.
