1 out of 5 stars Junk   May 11, 2010
computer professional (San Diego, USA)
The most pathetic assembly instructions I ever seen. Did not work. No phasing lines in VHF parts.
Apparently Winegard did produce a junk batch of HD-1080 antennas and they trying to get rid off them now. It is the only refurbished antenna the have available on their web site. Do not take any chances, get something else.

4 out of 5 stars Moderate gain but not as much as I had hoped   April 19, 2010
maurice (BROOKLYN, NY, US)
I am in Brooklyn, only 9 miles from the Empire State Bldg where most of the broadcast antennas are. I couldnt climb the roof to put the antenna there so I put it in my sideyard on a 10 foot treated wood 2x4 and also used a J mount so its about 15 ft off the ground. The next building is 20 feet away and I experimented with pointing it directly to the Empire State or slightly West to get a view of the street. Slightly West seemded to work better. But 2 weeks after I put it up , the signal began to degrade. Have no idea why. Tried different cables, new balun, retightened everything, just isnt working well. Ordered a Winegard pre amp, should come today, will update once I get it. I also build a home made HDTV antenna that you can find on You TUbe. It works better now than the HD 1080. With the antenna I used to get 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,25,31,47,68. Now I get all that except 31 with the home made, and I only get 2,9,11,13,47,68 with the antenna. Will try new cabling tonite as well and will up date. I just dont know what went wrong with an antenna that was working fine for 2 weeks??
Day later- Changed the cabling and the balun (the thing with the pigtails that converts 300 ohm signal to 75 ohm) and the antenna is back to 20+ channels. Cabling may have kinked when I nailed in some cable holders??, Balun may have something blocking its orifice?? Also, switched from RG59u to RG6 which has heavier guage. SOme combimantion of all three led to weak signal pass through. Still somewhat disappointed because TV Fool and [...] show another 4-5 stations in the right direction and right distance for me to be "green" and get a signal. Next to try- the preamp I ordered. Will post update if that upgrades signals recieved. The signals I do get are crisp and sharp and only 5-1 and 9-2 sometimes pixilate and degrade. Not sure why. 5-2 and 9-1 are perfect and they are the same stations so puzzled about the difference. To be continued.
So, I installed the WInegard HDP-269 preamp last night. Picture improved and 5-1 and 9-2 dont pixilate anymore but 2 does sometimes. Moderate improvement but no new channels appeared.
Bottom line, the antenna works ok but not as good as I would have liked and the preamp made only a small difference. I think putting this on my roof would have been better but I am afraid of heights so I can live with it as is.
One day, internet TV will make all this obsolete.

1 out of 5 stars vhf-uhf antenna   March 29, 2010
Forrest E. West (Fremont, CA)
Did not meet my expectation. My intent was to install it inside the attic and it would not work there,
even though I tried it in several locations. I did not try it outside.

5 out of 5 stars High quality.   March 27, 2010
A. Lopez (Lakewood, Ca)
Works great. Pulls enough signal to get all the major HD over the air broadcast channels. I live close to 30 miles away from the L.A. Area antenna towers. After rebuilding our home I found myself, wanting to avoid the typical large antennas found on most roofs. After months of researching, I found this one. If you're looking for an HD antenna that is relatively small in footprint, and can be mounted in different ways as to not ruin your roof line, this discreet antenna does the trick. And it's built by Winegard, so you know it's quality.

5 out of 5 stars HD air Antenna   March 8, 2010
Richard Butterfield (Los Alamitos, CA)
This is easy to install and works great in the Los Angeles, CA area. Just pointed it toward the Mountains North received all HD channels. Easy to assemble.
