5 out of 5 stars Did the job   July 5, 2010
Ellen J. Larson (USA)
Nice unit, changed my life. I'm in a fringe area (30-40 miles outside of Albany, NY, in the mountains), so all I wanted was a way to bring in signals that aren't quite strong enough to register on the new HD receivers. I'm off-grid, with limited electricity, so I just plug it in whenever I'm watching TV and unplug it the rest of the time. Ha! Good price at Amazon. My only complaint is that I have no idea how to get the rain boots onto the cable. There were no instructions on how to do so, and an hour spent with various tools ended in failure, so I'm not using them, which is not ideal.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent amplifier for digital signal   April 5, 2010
Stacey L. Dougherty
I bought a brand new antenna from Radio Shack during the Christmas Season in hopes that I could receive the new digital television signal as my old roof antenna was over 25 years old and wouldn't pickup any digital channels (I got five analog channels before the digital switchover). Installed the new antenna and no luck. I could only pickup one channel, and only during midnight hours. I was ready to give up on free television when I decided to give the Winegard AP-8275 Antenna Pre-amplifier a try; and I am glad I did. I went from only one channel during night hours to over 15 channels. I get all the channels I'm suppose to be getting from the Washington DC area (I live 70 miles south of the Washington DC/Baltimore broadcasting stations) with the exception of NBC channel 4 and the CW on channel 50. This amplifier is a great bang for your buck!

5 out of 5 stars Really improved my reception!!!   March 1, 2010
Walnutgrower (Nothern California)
This amplifier greatly improved my TV reception. I have a very tall antenna about 70ft from the ground overall and still had trouble getting more than a handfull of stations. Sometimes even those handfull of stations would not be available when the weather got bad. Now I always get those stations and many more. I live about 50 miles from the nearest transmitter so this amplifier is ideal for my situation. I also get stations that I thought I never would get. They usually only come in during the day, but they are at least 100 miles away over the mountains and I do not even have the antenna turned in their direction. I have not experimented yet to find out if I can get even more stations by turning the rotor, but I am sure that I can. By the way, I did not follow the directions yet of putting the amplifier within 6 feet of the antenna and I am sure this will help also. My new amplifier is about 100 ft from the antenna. I think I will wait until the weather is ideal before I climb my tower.

5 out of 5 stars Works great!   January 21, 2010

I live about 70 miles from Chicago and this amp added to a DB8 antenna (in my attic) gets me ABC, NBC, CW, PBS, FOX, UPN, ION, TELEMUNDO, UNIVISION, and a few more, all in HD with over 85 percent signal strength. No CBS tho. That added to local South Bend area (with local CBS), I get between 38-42 digital channels. Most in HD.
When I first installed this Winegard amp, I lost a couple of local channels and had a total of only 12, some with low signal strength. It was disappointing because I read that happened to another reviewer who rated the amp 1 star. However I checked all my self installed RG6 twist-on connectors, some were not making contact with the braid wires of the coax. I was cutting them off with the crimper tool... daaah! I love these twist-on connectors because you can reuse them over and over.
The manual says to install aditional in-line amplifiers to each receiver set if a splitter is used. But I had no need for that. The antenna and amp are installed in my attic (2 story house), down connected to a 4 way 5-1000 Mhz recommended splitter, then from the splitter there is a run about 20 feet RG6 coax to my bedroom Panasonic LCD, and about 35' to the Samsung LCD in my family room (the Samsung gets a few more channels than the Panasonic)
I also have 2 Digital Stream converter boxes that Obama paid for. I love these and will review them later with 5 well deserved stars.
