This preamp is easy to put up, I can get signals from transmitters 80 miles away, the picture is crystal clear.

Bought this a year ago when digital change rendered our old antennae worthless. Our cabin is over 100 miles from broadcast tower so bought a new long range Winegard antenna which got us one station that faded in and out. I ordered the preamplifier, installed it near the top of the antenna and this solved the problem. We get the 3 local stations plus 2 public TV stations. Picture is steady, clear and sharp. Closed the cabin for the winter, came back this spring, plugged in the preamp and we're good to go for the season. Read the installation instructions carefully (as mfg suggests)and results should be as good as ours.

Although I am 40 miles to 100 miles from the transmitters, I chose the less-powerful Winegard amp because I am using the Channel Master 4228HD antenna, which has extremely high gain. This pair works well for me even though I split to four tuners. I live on a hill. I do not regret buying a more powerful amp.

1 out of 5 stars This is a rip-off   May 12, 2010

I thought this product would boost my signal at least a percentage point but in the end, it doesn't help at all. At the end of the day, if you are so far from the towers, you are so far from the towers. Don't waste your money thinking by hooking this up to your antennae, it will help. I have a good antennae, it's on a tall pole and it's on my roof. During primetime I see drop-off's of a couple of channels and just needed a small boost. This product didn't do it and I think it's a scam.

EASY INSTALL: I installed the Winegard amplifier in about 30 minutes on a mast running from ground to about 3 ft. above roof. I have a medium size antenna from Radio Shack. I had to supply one short cable that ran from antenna to box attached to mast, and another short cable inside. My original cable (about 50 ft.)was then attached to the box. Be sure to use some weather proof tape around the cable after putting on the supplied rubber boot. This will ensure a good, consistent signal as it keeps the moisture from the cable connections. I also have a splitter from my primary cable to a TV downstairs, and the results were improved there as well.

SIGNALS: Before I installed the amplifier, I was having trouble with 4 local channels. The towers are in different locations within a distance of 40-60 miles from my home. I pointed the antenna in a direction to bring in all my weak channels. The local Fox channel had one signal bar before the install; it would pixelate, and drop signal continuously. Now, it comes in with 7 signal bars, and that's a strong digital signal for that channel. The other 3 channels had similar results.

RECOMMENDATION: I highly recommend the Winegard amplifier. Now, I just hope it lasts a long time.
